Strade Bianche 2025 is set to welcome the world’s best cycling specialists in an edition that retains its traditional format but introduces a new element that could influence the race’s outcome. After last year’s changes, which saw an extended route and the double ascent of Colle Pinzuto and Le Tolfe, the 2025 edition presents a new gravel sector: Serravalle.
The New Serravalle Sector: A Challenge in the Heart of the Race
The Serravalle sector does not feature in the decisive finale of the race but finds its place in the middle of the course. In the men's race, the new gravel stretch is located between the legendary Pieve a Salti (6th sector, 8 km) and San Martino in Grania (8th sector, 9.5 km), two sections that set the stage for the brutal Monte Sante Marie (9th sector, 11.5 km). Serravalle will thus be the 7th sector of the race, tackled after 99 km, with a challenging length of 9.3 km and an uphill start that will immediately test the peloton.
In the women’s race, Serravalle appears as the 5th gravel sector, following La Piana (4th sector, 6.4 km). Although far from the finish (104 km from Siena in the men’s race and 78 km in the women’s), it could become a trap for those struggling to master its rough and undulating terrain. The addition of this sector increases the total gravel mileage from 71 km to 81 km for the men and from 40 km to 50 km for the women.
Serravalle: A Journey Through History and Beauty in Tuscany
Located in the municipality of Buonconvento, Serravalle is a medieval village that served as a crossroads for pilgrims on the Via Francigena. With its 14th-century castle and the Church of San Lorenzo, this corner of Tuscany offers a breathtaking landscape that perfectly embodies the spirit of Strade Bianche. The terrain here is rough and demanding, with thick gravel that will require exceptional handling skills and tactical choices.
The Grand Finale: Last Year’s Circuit Confirmed
While the Serravalle sector will introduce new challenges in the middle of the race, the finale remains unchanged from 2024. After Monte Sante Marie, the peloton will face a punishing circuit featuring two ascents of Colle Pinzuto (2.4 km with gradients reaching 15%) and Le Tolfe (1.1 km with a brutal 500-meter wall at 18%). The final stretch will, as tradition dictates, be the legendary climb on Via Santa Caterina, with its treacherous cobblestones leading riders to the stunning finish in Piazza del Campo, Siena.
Conclusion: An Even More Epic Strade Bianche
With the introduction of Serravalle, Strade Bianche 2025 gains another element of spectacle and unpredictability. Gravel specialists will need to refine their strategies even further as they tackle a route that continues to evolve without losing its essence: an unrelenting battle of dust, history, and endurance in the heart of Tuscany.
